Policlinic Nuestra Señora de la Paz, Comas, Peru

The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Angels arrived in the district of Comas in 1960. This mission was newly founded and had a great need of help in all levels.

It was a time when there was a lot of fear and insecurity, especially in the poor migrant population, who were fighting to obtain a place to live or to build shelters and houses. These people coming from the mountains put all their hopes in Comas, a new development inside one of the many shantytowns of Lima, the capital of Peru.

The nurse Sister Pauline Brisebois immediately took care of people’s health. During this same year she got a small clinic built which later became the Policlinic Nuestra Señora de la Paz. Would she imagine that 50 years later this establishment would become a very important and sought after policlinic?

The local people gave their time, the benefactors helped with money and the Sisters led with a lot of faith. They deployed all their energy to offer the best services possible.

50 years later, the Sisters continue to work for the improvement of the policlinic, which has already received dozens of thousands of people in need of low priced medical care. A laywoman is nowadays the head of this work which employs a lot of personnel.

The Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Angels don’t forget the clamor of the poor. That is why they make regular campaigns of screening and vaccination, aiming to improve the health and quality of life of the population.

They collaborate also with the liturgy of the parish Notre-Dame de la Paix and play an important role in the social work and evangelization that the Catholic Church offers in the north of Lima.
